... Bugs Pond (our hero!)
Bugs, who would normally have reacted strongly to such an event, was hardly bothered. Well, OK. He did wrinkle his nose at the stench of a dripping wet unkempt hippie/actor.
Bugs was severely distraught that the entire group of "Muffy's hole" inhabitants (minus Big John) had escaped their captivity. No, it wasn't because they escaped captivity. That's what he wanted. But, it was because he wasn't the sole source of their salvation [Editor's note: 3 paragraphs deleted here. No need to divert this into a religious discussion.]
Bugs is supposed to be our hero. But some guy named "Toughie" filled the hole with water, so Bugs' plan to use the donut box stairs as an escape vehicle didn't pan out. This was really disturbing Bugs. Had he aged so much in that hole that he was losing his touch? Was he no longer mankind's hope for the future?
It was then that Bugs noticed that Toughie had an identical twin standing next to the Public Works truck. He was eating a donut. "That's unusual", thought Bugs. "Identical twins working at the same place."
Bugs, his super-hero senses still somewhat in tune, noticed the hospital building next door, so he decided to go in for a checkup. After all, if he's going to be our hero (!), he has to be physically and mentally fit. It just wouldn't do to have a hero operating at only 75% of efficiency. His loyal entourage followed him in a line. Like little baby duckies. How cute!
Bugs was about to enter the hospital front door when out burst Muffy, jumping into his arms. "Bugs!", she shouted. "I'm so glad to see you!"
Bugs was happy to see Muffy, too. It showed. [Editor's note: caution ... G-rating in danger].
Then, *another* Muffy came bursting through the door. This startled Bugs. TWO MUFFY'S ???
Muffy explained the situation with the duplicity created by the Bifurcation Magnometer. "Ahhhh", said Bugs. "Show me this gadget."
No need to go into details here, but everybody knows that super-heros are trained in all aspects of living in a crazy mixed up world. And, that includes, of course, training in the fine art of de-bifurcationism. Bugs adjusted the Bifurcation Magnometer's dials, turned its fuse around so it was in effect, a de-Bifurcation Magnometer, then flipped the switch. |
