Front Porch Digital Deploys BitScream VOD MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., April 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Front Porch Digital Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: FPDI - news) today announced the first commercial deployment of BitScream® VOD. The client is a pioneering regional news network who implemented BitScream VOD in their live production environment. BitScream VOD, one member in a family of software-based transcoders that converts digital content to multiple formats in real-time or faster, is used by the client to automate the reformatting of news content.
The client has also successfully deployed FPDI's VAST(TM) architecture as the automation and administration layer for the control of their production process. VAST enables the on-demand delivery of content in nearly any desired digital format, all in an automated, software enabled workflow. VAST has the capability to expand on this function to provide an end-to-end digital video encoding, indexing, archiving and transcoding solution that seamlessly integrates and automates all aspects of digital video production workflow. In this capacity, the VAST system has the added benefit of providing cable and VOD service operators the ability to store their content in a fully searchable and browse-able digital archive. When tied to the back end of a Video Server, the benefits of a searchable on-demand archive extend all the way to the consumer. The searchable archive enabled by VAST truly represents a significant leap towards the promise of creating a personalized content-on-demand system.
``The potential value of any video asset lies in its ability to be accessed on demand. BitScream VOD was developed to deliver a reliable, cost-effective method of formatting existing digital video content for the booming on-demand market. Yankee Group predicts that the Video on Demand market will grow to $1.98 billion by year-end 2005,'' said Dr. Jay Yogeshwar, CTO of Front Porch Digital. ``BitScream VOD was designed to meet the exacting requirements of an on-demand, online environment. From contract to implementation, this project was completed in less than one month and has already shown an ROI for our client. We look forward to continuing to assist them in reducing both the cost and manpower demands of delivering VOD content.'' Revenue from the contract will be recognized in the first quarter of 2002. |
