I find myself thinking this at times. The "Settlements" are really unsupportable. I think the Arabs would still have done the same thing, but the settlements really give them a reason.

You mean if positions were reversed? The Arabs would have been smarter -- they would have got rid of all the Jews first.

The settlements are a huge red herring. In other conflicts, you have to guess, but in this conflict the offer on the table was so close to what the Palestinians claim to want that you know the answer for sure. Barak offered to dismantle 80% of the settlements at Taba. Is Arafat really fighting only for the Gush Etzion bloc? Not likely. Krauthammer has it exactly right. Arafat doesn't want any land for peace deal. He's only interested in land for no peace, according to the Plan of Phases.
