Joe, Re: "From selling notebook computers? Isn't it Compaq's business to sell computers?"

You aren't understanding my question. Compaq is discounting a particular Evo line of notebook computers that contain AMD processors. Why choose that line? What incentive is there? I would think that AMD had to have played a part in this decision, else Compaq would have been more prone to promote their existing computer lines (since the point of providing largely discounted products is to promote brand awareness, and Compaq's largest selling products would obviously been among their existing lines). I'm guessing that no one here really knows the answer, but I was just fishing for some reasonable guesses.
