c2,

re: "Give me a break"

<< Why not respond directly to JohnG's complaint about mislabeling the Korean's labels? >>

OK, OK. If there is a "complaint" I guess I best read it.

OK. click, click, click, click.

Click click click.

Done.

Complaint noted.

Feel free to pass this on to John if you would like.

<< Eric. Give me a break. Korea only uses the 3G designation for wireless services using the recently auctioned 3G spectrum and YOU KNOW IT. >>

HE obviously DOESN'T KNOW IT, so I'll give him a break, when he gets HIS facts straight ...

... SKT has launched 1xEV-DO, which THEY "label" as 3G in 800 MHz, not in the WRC-92 IMT-2000 2 GHz core spectrum that Korea astutely set aside for third generation services, and for which they hold 3G licenses to build out W-CDMA, and where they will start to build out W-CDMA next year ...

sktelecom.com

... and oh yes, WRC-2000 approved spectrum in 806-960 MHz band for the terrestrial component of IMT-2000, so there is no Hype, except on the QUALCOMM sponsored ALL HYPE "3G Today" website where someone is obviously trying to spin a silk purse out of a sow's ear by taking SKT's 2.5G numbers and labeling them 3G in order to try to convince people in Orwellian fashion that what was once an interim step to 3G, REALLY, HONEST TO GOODNESS IS 3G.

<< Thus 1X RTT rel 0 at 156Kbps or Rel A at 156Kbps Kbps is called 2.5 G even though it meets or exceeds the international definition of 3G. >>

cdma2000 Release 0 1xRTT meets the MINIMUM requirement for IMT-2000 (144 kbps at high vehicular speed in full mobility), but it does not meet the requirement of 384 kbps in a pedestrian environment, or 2 Mbps in a fixed and stationary environment and it will never meet or exceed those requirements

Enter "TIA/EIA/IS-856" 1xEV-DO(1x Evolution-Data Only) which exceeds the 2 Mbps requirement in a fixed and stationary environment, and which has been approved by the ITU as an IMT-2000 standard under the MC umbrella.

Now ITU be darned ...

Carriers are going to "label" the technology they implement whatever they want ...

... especially in America. Land of Hypeortunity.

<< Give me a break >>

ROFLMFAO!
