Ted, Re: Okay, Z, but now tell us how that action is any different then say a Hitler over running Poland for an example.
It isn't. Reading Z's posts with phrases like "We are the best country in the world, bare none" or "Let's invade Saudi Arabia" (and take over the world?) reminds me of the darkest chapter of our history. This sort of thinking allowed the Nazi's to seize power in Germany and encouraged them in their "world domination" plans. Just replace Germans with Americans and Jews with Arabs and you don't see a whole lot of a difference in both "ideologies". It's really sad (and somewhat frightening) to read something like this on this thread. I really hope that people thinking like Z are a minority in the US.
Andreas, fear and nationalism can be a potent fuel that can lead to all kinds of unpleasant actions.
Yesterday, I noted on this thread that I was stripped searched leaving LA. However, there were some details I omitted. After clearing security for boarding, I realized I had forgotten my WSJ on my seat and turned around and went back to get it. When I got back to the gateway, they told me to move to the side where a number of people were standing and to drop my bags. There were roughly 12-14 people, of which only three of us....myself and an elderly couple, did not speak with an accent. When I realized that, I had a sick feeling that only got sicker when the woman who had assigned me to the group kept apologizing over and over again for searching my carry on. However, no one apologized to the accented passengers.
And I grew even more sick when I realized how grateful I was that the dark skinned guy who could have been Hindu or Muslim......and who I was convinced looked very dangerous and angry........was stripped searched thoroughly. Even so, I watched him closely on the plane....prepared to jump if he made a false move.
Like I said, fear and nationalism and fear and fear are a potent mix.
