Lots of ideas in Western Civilization never would have been, but for the East. Gun powder, a defining feature of Western Civilization, came from the East. Some sources even suggest Jesus got his ideas from the East. I don't see the need to say where things came from though- except out of curiosity and the fun of tracing connections- a la James Burke. I think we can say our society has a lot of good ideas, lets find out what those are, and keep them- regardless of where they came from. Other societies have good ideas too- lets steal those. And all societies (ours included) carry around some bad baggage- let's dump that off.
