Sorry-- reread his original reply. Sam, I have been accused of far worse, sometimes quite correctly. And those were the things they knew about....imagine...(VBG)

I take exception to many people who view their cause with righteousness and malign the motives of dissenters. I also wonder whether the reasoning that led to witchcraft is over in the scientific age. As a psychologist, that is what fueled my interest in DDT and cancer. It seemed that to many, science was a failed god and that people were angry at it. Therefore claims, e.g., "It has chemicals in it." was the modern version of witchcraft, with scientific progress being the demon. Remember, "Better Living Through Chemistry" was the slogan of Du Pont--with pride. I therefore try to follow environmental issues that have become "causes" and get the data. E.g, nuclear, genetic engineering, global warming, recycling. etc. and I find these issues are hardly cut and dried. Many environmentalists demonize those who disagree, or even question environmental orthodoxy, as my wife can attest to. I do want to be a gadfly, and I have killed several parties, but I want people to respect data and different opinions.

I also fear being tedious, so, unless there is interest, this shall be my last word on this.
