OT I did not find the discussion tedious at all. It seems to me that global warming is an issue that will not be going away any time soon. As you pointed out, it would be extremely expensive for the US to acknowledge that it is wrong and to take the necessary policy prescriptions. But if it is expensive for the US, I wonder how much it is costing Europe? I also wonder what these abatement or preventive measures are like, and whether the externalities caused by our lack of compliance can somehow be localized so that we at least bear the lions share of the cost of our folly. Or is it the commons that must suffer? Also wonder about the costs of abatement. Who pays? How long does it take? Who might benefit from global warming? Would it be desirable to enact a scheme whereby the beneficiaries compensate the losers?
