if the idea is rooted in western culture, like a new widget, it is good, if it is really new, like a stem cell, it is bad.
There were times when radios, transistors, automobiles, and television were "really new". The auto remade society and changed morals and mores. The same can be said of television.

The fact is that the fact that something is really new and is going to be disruptive does not keep it from being adopted.

Stem cells. Suppose a method is found to allow use of adult stem cells and that they turn out to be even better than fetal stem cells because they can be cultured from your own tissue and hence can be exact genetic matches. They will be just as "really new" as fetal stem cells.

Do you think they will not be adopted because of that?
