re: we tend to think that shooting up a place and subduing the indigenous population will do the trick..but rarely does it work permanently. So, to believe we have taken care of the problems with Afghanistan or Iraq, I think is foolhardy.

Subduing the trouble makers is just one part of the solution; the other part is making sure the population doesn't have reason again to listen and follow the trouble makers in the future. That's when we will know that the job is done.


It seems that Jordan's "indigenous" population (palestinians) stopped been a problem after black september. It worked nicely.
