Is it best to store the inflatable inflated or deflated, or does it not matter?

Deflated, dry, out of the sun and away from gnawing critters. It's ok to dry it in the sun, just don't leave it there a long time.

Another important thing: never leave it in the sun inflated. The air in the tubes can heat up, expand, and burst the whole thing. The effect of temperature on pressure is really pretty severe - if you inflate in the morning when it's cool you will often have to bleed some air as the day heats up.

As far as paddles go, look for something that's light, feels good in the hands, grabs water well but doesn't take too much effort to pull. It's good to try a few. Or just look at Werner paddles (www.wernerpaddles.com) or another quality brand and get one of their mid-range offerings. The local paddling shop is probably a good place to get advice.

A lot of whitewater paddlers change their boats more often than their underwear (the few that wear underwear, at least), but they tend to cling to the paddle they like. A good stick makes paddling a lot more fun.
