one thing (stupid me) was missing, namely it's the days per striking person per year. The effect would then be (for example) 16/250 = 6.4% for US and ten times less (1.6/250) in Germany. The important point of course is "per striking person". Assuming 10% is unionized (ballparking) it could still have an impact in the range of half a percent. Given the attention Oh-point-something-like numbers enjoy, this is not negligible.

The reason I saw these stats printed in the first place, is the next round of talks here in Germany - IG Metall asking for 6.5% raise for their 3.6M members, and the employers offering 2%.
