>The problem is that this approach has solved nothing permanently in the past so why should it solve anything now. Sharon wants to be the bull in the china closet; that rarely works because its too easy. The Israelis are smart, well educated and successful and get considerable economic aid from the US. Its time they come up with more creative solutions to their problems and share their knowledge for success with the Palestinians.
Why isn't it working? Because every time Israel starts an operation, they're told to end it.
Right!! The Israelis took the West Bank and Gaza back in the 60's or 70's and that was supposed to end the fighting permanently. Finally, Israel had the buffer zones it needed to ward off any attacks from the Arabs. Fast forward to the 90's......the Palestinians have come up with the concept of the suicide bomber. No longer do they have to fight gun to gun, street to street with the Israelis. Just come over to a Sbarro or a supermarket and blow up some Israelis. The annexed areas no longer provide safety and have become a major bone of contention.
The Israelis change the rules and the borders and the Palestinians find new ways to kill........and nada gets resolved.
That just pisses the terrorists off more. If the Israelis were allowed to go in and take away all of their weapons, they might get somewhere. Today alone, they managed to kill the Hamas member who organized the Passover bombings in Netanya and Haifa, went into the house of the police chief in Nablus and found an explosives factory, and they went into the house of the governor of Nablus and found nine wanted individuals and an illegal weapons cache.
And you believe that if you take every weapon and lock up every member of Hamas and Al Aqsa and every other terrorist group that that would be the end. If so, I don't think you understand the root of the problem and how pervasive the unrest is. If you better want to understand, go to some of the largest cities in this country and see the extent to which gangs rule the inner city. I suspect the spawning ground for gangs in this country is similar to and just as fertile as the ground for terrorists in the Middle East.
>And your juvenile screaming at me......trying to get your stubborn, opinionated point down my throat...is symptomatic of the Israelis' problem. The real solution to the Israeli/ Palestine problem is very complex and complicated, and will take real effort and several generations to get accomplished. In the meantime, both sides, but particularly the Israelis, are wasting time by perpetuating this war of weapons and words.
No they're not. Since the '70s, the Arabs have been trying to run a PR war against Israel, and have done so very effectively. Should Israel not counter?
Oh, the poor Israelis.....undermined by a Madison Ave. PR war on the part of the Arabs. Its the Israelis who have done the PR war.....and very effectively I might add. If only their military actions were as effective. But they have become less effective, and will be even less effective in the future.
