THE ORIGIN OF THE PALESTINE-ISRAELI CONFLICT

American Spirit,

Re: By the way, I am not Jewish and have never supported israel before. In fact I used to think Israelis were the problem. Now I KNOW they are not. The evidence makes it very clear now.

I think you had it right the first time. Here's an important view that doesn't often get enough attention in the heat of the moment:

"The Origin of the Palestine-Israeli Conflict"

I found this 40 page .pdf, published by Jews for Justice in the Middle East, to be very enlightening about the causes of the present unpleasantries in the east end of the Mediterranean:

cactus48.com

An excerpt:

A very eerie precursor for today's policy of analloyed state terror and aggression was written in 1955 -

"[Israel] must see the sword as the main, if not the only, instrument with which to keep its morale high and to retain its moral tension. Toward this end it may, no - it must - invent dangers, and to do this it must adopt the method of provocation and revenge...And above all - let us hope for a new war with the Arab countries, so that we may finally get rid of our troubles and acquire our space."

-Moshe Dayan

(Quoted in Livia Rokach: "Israel's Sacred Terrorism")

RGD comments: Chilling. Cold blooded. Bloody minded. A nasty and virulent sort of colonial imperialism.

So, American Spirit, if you read the pamplet, you'll find that Truman supported the partition of 1948 because there were plenty of Jewish constituents for him to be concerned about, and hardly an Arab-American voter to be found then.

You may also be shocked, as I was, at how extraordinarily duplicitous the Ben-Gurions and others were in stealing the land of the Palestinian sharecroppers who've been turned into refugees without any democratic or legal right of redress. It's an interesting history, and I can clearly see exactly why the suicide bombers are doing what freedom fighters must against an overwhelmingly immoral, colonialist and racist aggressor.

Salaam aleikum, Ray
