See, this is why Doug is so wrong, we need only read understand & get the press to bring forward history & the whole concept that gold price can be manipulated becomes proven fact instead of the venue of "conspiracy nuts".

Nothing is new, there are only new twists. Where Fisk & Gould cornered the gold market(under President Grant) to profit from higher prices the banks & Rubin / Clinton made a profit from playing the short side in our time. To the good fortune of the world, Bush became President & the current problem has begun to be unwound - though too quietly & too slowly for the tastes of many, he has begun to unwind the short gold problem. When one views the effects of crash of 1869 & the first "Black Friday" against the "recession" of today (understanding the higher impact of the stock market today) we know why they are pressing for a silent & slow unwinding.

You wish talk about "masochism", just ignore history, you'll get pain & suffering that will frighten even the best of the "please beat me" crowd. All who ignore and discount history are fools.

On your topic of B&D/S&M and under the broad topic of money, see article about "Beat Me in St. Louis":
