Surprise. I agree with you except that I DO believe civility is necessary. I read this thread precisely for those times when the discussion is heated, intelligent, and carried out with style. I love good arguments. This does not include the gratuitous GFY or namecalling, or the fixating on one issue to the point that the dead horse begins to smell and the readers are comatose. It's for those reasons I tend not to get involved, not because I am offended. I am seldom offended by people's views and see no reason they should worry about my sensibilities. THere seems to be some confusion over civilized behavior requiring that one never offend anyone for any reason at any time, and that one's own feelings about things shouldn't be expressed because they might offend. That's silly. But I do think ideas can be expressed with conviction and fire AND civility.
