Rumor that KDDI going immediately to 1X EV DO (2.4 M bps now & more later) to match Korea's currently operating 1X EV DO network during the Korean/Japanese (May 31 to June 30) co-hosted World Soccor Cup finals . Samsung to provide some of the equipment. Europeans attending the events will learn first hand what 3G is all about. European 3G efforts will suffer a total "loss of face" in Asia and thus become a footnote of history.

(Once upon a time, long ago, the Scandanavian countries, Finland and Sweden, grew, through restraint of trade & shillfull political maneuvering, to be the King and Queen of Wireless communications. But, alas, they were overtaken by greed, arrogance, lack of vision and QCOM's CDMA. In the period of a few years, the king and queen were found out, and then overthrown mightily, leaving as their legacy a string of bankrupt and financially weakned Eurpean telecom operators. Even the great national telecome companies fo Germany and Japan failed to escape hundreds of billions of dollars of write offs. There followed a period of several years of calm and prosperity in the wireless world as equipment operators, operators and users embraced the CDMA standard.

Samsung to Export 3G Mobile Phone Equipment to Japan

Samsung Electronics said yesterday it was putting the finishing touches to negotiations
with Japan's No. 2 mobile carrier KDDI to export third- generation (3G) mobile telephone
equipment, a senior official said yesterday.

``At the current time, we are unable to disclose details of the deal with KDDI, but it is
likely to be one of the biggest contracts ever,'' said Han Tae-shin, director of public
relations at Samsung Electronics.

``We are currently in the final stages,'' said Han, adding ``We can not comment on
anything further.''

KDDI will launch a so-called CDMA2000 1X EV-DO (evolution data optimized) service as its
next-generation mobile network ahead of the World Cup finals, which is to be co-hosted by
South Korea and Japan between May 31 and June 30, Samsung said.

An introduction of the EV-DO network, which was first commercialized in South Korea, will
create a foothold for other domestic 3G equipment makers and network carriers to make
inroads into the Japanese market, analysts said.

Earlier this month, Japan's second-largest mobile operator launched what it called a 3G
service, based on Qualcomm's CDMA2000 1X technology.
