'crusade' - well it'll be your cross to forbear should you use it
The mounties use 'male' and 'female' exclusively in their reports and in discussing perps between themselves ... never heard them use 'gentleman' ever, and i've spent a fair bit of time around them, dealing with security problems of pieces of land and such ... also have known a couple socially, through being neighbours .... they have a real shorthand who what when where style of describing stuff, no slang ever, some jargon specific to the force though
Once i got a Stern Reprimand on the FADG thread for explaining, at someone else's request, the current way in which the term 'gringo' is used, in all ways specific to situations .... message was basically that it has long since ceased to be pejorative, unless you're being an asshole, in which case you had it coming, gringito -g- ... but far more is it used as a term of teasing endearment, a sign that you're trusted to at least some degree
Place could use new topics, yes .... how about let's liberate Cuba from under the grinding heel of Dan Burton and his alter ego Fidel? ... later though, i'm getting pulled offline just now |
