I have seen this in other places, it was discussed in "EE Times" a few years back. The article was on AMD, and was talking about the upcoming Palomino cores and how AMD was going to go over and do more transistor by transistor optimization like Intel generally does.

No, all I know about both companies design techniques is what I read. I tend to discount the posters here, but Scumbria is one of the few that strikes me as have pretty good in-depth knowledge. I do tend to give articles on eet.com and siliconstrategies.com credibility.
