”U.S. military intelligence reports that have been publicly cited, have indicated that Russian entities signed contracts this year to help (Iran) produce liquid-fueled ballistics missiles, such as the SS-4. fas.org Iran can produce the Shihab-3 missile ‘locally’ now. The Shehab-3, based on the North Korean Nodong-1, has a range of 1,300 km approximately 850 miles and can deplou nuclear or chemical missiles, far enough to reach Israel or Turkey. There have been additional reports that the Iranian objective is to develop a multistage, intercontinental missile with a range of 3,500 miles.
According to this brief, the Shihab-3 became operational in 2000, (which agrees with all the US State Department and Defense departments made in 1997 and 1998. ) jcpa.org

In 1989, Irian president Rafsanjani underscored the need to obtain an atomic arsenal, stressing that `Iran cannot overlook the reality of nuclear strength in the modern world.' Nuclear arms, in the Tehran mullahs' view, are `the most important strategic guarantee' of their survival.”
But after Desert Storm, Iran started claiming that their buildup of nuclear and chemical and biological weapons was for defense.

Iran’s natural gas reserves are the second largest in the world, so they hardly need nuclear power. The Iranian regime (with the help of the US administration) continues the fiction that the nuclear reactions under construction are exclusively for production of domestic electricity." According to a CIA report in January 1998, Iran remains the largest illicit buyer of conventional weapons among `pariah' states, buying an estimated $20 million to $30 million worth of U.S. military parts in 1997. fas.org
“Iran remains one of the most active countries seeking to acquire WMD and ACW technology from abroad. Iran, a Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) States party, already has manufactured and stockpiled chemical weapons — including blister, blood, choking, and probably nerve agents, and the bombs and artillery shells to deliver them. That was one of many terrorist conferences over the years, and they are continuing to date.
The CIA report says that “China pledged in October 1997 to halt cooperation on a uranium conversion facility (UCF) and to forego any new nuclear cooperation with Iran.” cia.gov
China has broken all their promises, and Russia won’t promise.
"Fission for Cash" the reports are that at least two Russian nuclear agencies are in the shadow of Bushehr on the side, are quietly negotiating to sell Iran a 40 mega-watt heavy water research reactor and a uranium conversion facility that would allow fissionable materials to be produced by the Iranians. I would just ask, does this violate the non-proliferation policy of this government?

1994 China supplies a complete nuclear fusion research reactor facility to Iran, and provides technical assistance in making it operational. 12 China, with apparent U.S. acquiescence, agrees to replace France as supplier of low-enriched uranium fuel for India's U.S.-supplied Tarapur reactors. The U.S. cut off supply of LEU soon after India's nuclear explosion of 1974. This LEU supply makes it easier for India to concentrate other nuclear assets on its weapons program. fas.org

But what's done is done. Let this administration stop concealing Iran's WMD program, stop blaming Russia and China and Europe and the US itself for helping Iran because Iran is a real danger to the world. (So is Pakistan, imo) Iraq is not, not now.
“Iran is operating on our map that we have here in 21 different countries around the world or has actions in 21 different countries around the world today.....And actually I've even heard reports of additional countries that are not on this map of operation by the Iranians. So they are there, they are active, they are pursuing expansionist desires. I was in Uzbekistan recently, I've been in Azerbaijan -- very concerned about the expansion of Iranian- supported groups in Central Asia and the South Caucasus in these weak, weak countries." For all those who think that Hizbollah, which has been supported and nourished by Iran for years, is just a threat to the 'Jews" wake up. Hizbollah operates around the world, in the Mideast, In Africa, in south america, in Canada, and the United States. Imad Mughniyeh, former leader of Hizbollah, is now Ayotallah Khameni's right hand man. And Mughniyeh makes Bin Laden look like a boy scout. He has been on the FBI wanted list for over 20 years, has undergone plastic surgery, and is probably the world's most wanted (and feared) man. He was responsible for the '83 bombing of the US barracks in Beirut; was involved with the American hostages in 1979; personally murdered CIA Chief william Buckley in 1984; was involved in kidnapping the three Israeli soldiers about two years ago; who are assumed dead. According to Janes Intelligence: Imad Mugniyeh and Zawahari planned 9/11.
Hizbollah is trying to stir things up in northern Israel.
BTW, Hizbollah wears red headbands; so did the hijackers on Flight 93 that crashed in Pittsburg. ap.tbo.com "Ex-Iranian President warns United States that Its support of Israel Could make it a target of Palestinian Suicide Attacks." |
