Doesn't it seem kind of funny: Bush demanding that Israel withdraw now, Powell going on a peace mission as soon as his suits get back from the cleaners (not a 24-hour place), and Israel saying it can finish in 2-3 weeks if it really hurries, or maybe 12 weeks.

It does seem like a split administration, but usually if the hawks have 70% of the pull and the doves 30%, the hawks prevail until they meet some comeuppance in policy.

Here it seems like the hawks get 70% of Bush's speech, and the doves 30%.

Bush strongly demands the Israeli withdrawal, but he doesn't hide that his sympathies are with Israel, and you get the feeling he's doing it so he can tell the ROTW (Rest of the World) - "See I demanded, but the SOB won't budge."

U.S. presidents don't usually do that right? Before demanding they'd call up Israel to see if they will do it. The superpower doesn't want it to look like people ignore it or kick sand in it's face.
