Ericsson makes WCDMA & CDMA2000 run on the same platform.

elektroniktidningen.se

According to the story, Ericsson claims that the two platforms: AXE810 for circuit switched and CPP (Cello Packet Plattform) can be used for WCDMA and CDMA2000 both and will enable the two standards to run side by side on the same physical network. The server platform TSP, the Home Location Register (HLR), the Authentication Authorisation and Accounting (AAA) as well as IP-multimedia is almost identical in the two systems.

Most importantly; Ericsson can now offer a transition from CDMA2000 to WCDMA, says Östen Mäkitalo at Telia Mobile.

- a consolidation may happen in the U.S. and we believe a migration from CDMA2000 to WCDMA may happen says Mats Thorén at Ericsson but declined to make any more specific prognostication.

The writer points out that there are no publicly known plans by the larger operators in the U.S. to migrate from CDMA2000 to WCDMA.
