One of the documents released today shows that in 1978 Father Shanley, who was then known as Boston's "street priest," spoke at a Boston conference held by advocates of sex between men and boys and said he supported the activity. A magazine called Gay Week reported at the time that Shanley spoke as a "representative of Boston's Cardinal Medeiros for outreach to sexual minorities." MacLeish said he believes the conference led to the formation of the North American Man-Boy Love Association, or NAMBLA. boston.com
