I was using the 1V1S1R as vivid expression of xenophobia which is near us everywhere on the planet, if at that point i had remembered you were jewish i should likely have chosen another catchy intro .... very well, we are agreed on language capabilities as bridges, and the absence of them as walls, eh ... fwiw, i preach and aid the learning of english to latinos everywhere, and have done so to french in Québec while playing pool in a distinctly anti-anglo bar, among other places, and let me tell you that was fun

Sure everybody should learn english, of course the great majority of even first-generacion immigrants do, and all of their children .... but i think it short-sighted and restrictive of freedom to make english mandatorily exclusive, especially in the portion of the US which forms the occupied northern half of México, and even there i should not like to see spanish made mandatory, as you can't cram education down anyone's throat, trying to do so will defeat the purpose of building individual liberty through wider understanding

I do think the learning of a personally chosen [within budgetary constraints] second language should be an integral part of schooling, from the first years .... in BC we have schools dedicated to 'french immersion', can't always get your kid into one though, great demand as that is where the best teachers are, it just seems to work out that way

A neighbour here, scot by ancestry, is married to a japanese, she plans to hold language classes soon, i plan to make time for them, now that has to be hard when there are no shared roots and cultural basis, but even more of a venture beyond my current horizons, hopefully
