At EPA during the Clinton years, there was a concentrated effort to go bilingual. I say bilingual rather than multilingual because the push was for Spanish. The Asian advocates, for example, represented people with many, many different languages and recognized that it wasn't practical to translate everything into all of them. I could understand the value of producing hazard information in multiple languages depending on the affected community, but could see no point in providing global warming info or the EPA budget in Spanish. That position was not well received, though, by the true believers.
