I neither know nor included any previously expressed sentiments which you might later bring to the table. I appreciate knowing this last, however, as it is only too well understood, that much of the modern West defines itself by the thought which has evolved out of the "enlightenment" era. It is true that some of this thought has been absorbed by modern conservatism, and I think you might agree that it is incongrous to see it existing side by side with conservative fundamentalism.

My critical response to your essay was neither to agree with nor to oppose your particular partialities. Rather, it was to object to the method of presentation which wrongfully polarized the essential values and thoughts which are common to conservatives and liberals alike, and sorted those human values into labels and stereotypes. Your fundamentalism cuts a rather deep channel at times...
