PRI Automation Launches New Advanced Process Control Application for CMP

WaferState APC for CMP Provides Semiconductor Manufacturers with Up to 25 Percent Higher Throughput

BILLERICA, Mass., April 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PRI Automation, Inc., (Nasdaq: PRIA, Toronto: PRJ), a global leader in semiconductor factory automation systems, software and services, unveiled its latest Advanced Process Control application. WaferState(TM) APC for CMP, a run-to-run control application for controlling film-thickness variability, can provide semiconductor manufacturers with quality improvements of 20 percent or more on average as well as throughput improvements of up to 25 percent.

The software contains algorithms that can automatically adjust polish times based on variables such as pad wear. As a result, film-thickness variability can be significantly reduced, leading to better quality, less re- work and higher throughput. PRI will demonstrate WaferState APC for CMP, and its other three WaferState APC applications, at the SEMICON/Europa conference (April 15-20, 2002 in Munich, Germany, PRI Booth #A3.142).

WaferState APC is based on PRI's patent-pending control approaches using the FabRunner library of algorithms for advanced control. It is the first APC software that combines the proven reliability of distributed control systems in wide use in other chemical process industries with the critical knowledge and insight of semiconductor process and applications engineers, giving semiconductor manufacturers immediate access to proven applications on a proven platform.

All versions of WaferState APC feature graphical configuration, built-in control algorithms and pre-configured graphics for data visualization. They can be implemented in as little as two to three months, versus six to eight months for other APC solutions, enabling semiconductor manufacturers to reap the rewards of APC much faster than ever before.
