Not quite. Ethanol is an alcohol (usually from corn). Methanol is an alcohol (wood). Gasohol is the blend made from a mixture of gasoline (90%) and ethanol (10%).

Pure methanol does power your Indy cars:

In the United States, methanol fuelling stations are available in California. The famous Indy 500 auto racing circuit continues to require methanol as the only fuel that can be used at Indy races.

btw, all independent organizations appear to agree that ethanol production as a fuel extender is economic waste.
