Important corrections in regards to the Jordanian Kingdom and history.
/ King Hussein did not attack, or intended to attack Israel in 67. Israel "included" him in the fight, and won. The intersting telephone conversation aired on the first night of the war,(mossad) between Nasser and Hussein, clearly demonstrate it too, if need be, when Hussein finally agrees to Nasser request that he states that US airmen helped the Israeli on that day. ( He never fully recovered from that lie.)
/ When Hussein accepted to let go of his West Bank, it is under full pressure of all main Arab nations, in Rabat, Morocco, early eighties. Arafat is there too, and inherits his rights. Hussein had no choice but to bow, even if it was the best for his nerves. Not for Israel, as it is obvious now.
/ The Jordanians people bear no responsibility for what their king does, as he does not consult his people before taking any decision. The same is valid when his army kills (murders ?) forty thousand civilians (mostly) Palestinians in 70, after the Zarka airplanes blowup.
/ Hussein has almost never stopped having contacts with the Israelis, so did his father. The CIA always kept closed ties with both.
/ Most probably, Hussein did not see the 67 crisis coming. As six months before, he sold his London UK property in order to pay for golden leafs on the dome of Jerusalem, (formerly copper). Cost : a million US$ 67.
/ History is tricky sometimes. Right at the end of the 6 days war, a debate started in Israel military as to why both mosques on the temple's mount had not been destroyed. The Israeli air force general argued that he didn't recieve any order, adding that "a couple of French mirage (mind you), could have done the job on the last day, and in the turmoil of the war nothing would have happened, etc". But, as no one in Israel expected this Jordanian front, nor this victory, it didn't happen and now we are stuck with one 'heavently' bride (no virgin for sure) and two earthly lovers.
/ After many attempts by Pals to end his life, + Sadat end, king Hussein was in no hurry to sign a deal with the Israelis. Clinton managed that one. |
