Mani,

There are several published speeches by member of Israeli parliament. It clearly makes a case that their desire is a racially and religiously pure Israel with no Arabs and moslems. That to me should be alarming to all of us.

A published speech by a member of parliament does not mean much. We have people like Maxine Waters (who supported LA rioters) in our "parliament", also, we had a chairman of banking committee (Henry Gonzales) whose mental capacity either deteriorated badly in his late years, or worse, he started out that way etc. So a speach by a "member of parliament" doesn't necessarily mean there is wide support for it.

On the other hand, I think the support for it is growing. You say we should be alarmed by it. Can you explain how that is more alarming than 10s of people dead per day, with no end in sight?

IMO, this could be a basis of a long term workable settlement. That is, for Jews to leave from their settlements on West Bank and Gaza, and Arabs to move out from Israeli teritorries. Once that is done, build tall walls between the 2. Israel would have to learn how to get by without Palestinian employees, and Palestinians would have to start their own businesses in their own teritorries.

I don't think it is likely to happen though. Obviously, the Arabs would not want to move from prosperous Israel to destitute Palestinian teritories, lose their jobs etc. They are citizens of Israel, and I am not quite sure what justification the government of Israel would have to make them leave.

The same with the Jewish settlers. They made a lot of personal sacrifices to start these settlements, and would not be eager to abandon their life's work. But, I doubt palestinians would have any scruples about forcing them to leave.

What do you see as a possible solution to this conflict?

Joe
