SAN FRANCISCO (Dow Jones)--Sharper Image Corp. (SHRP) March same-store sales rose 18%, and the company said it expects first quarter losses to be narrower than consensus estimates.

In a press release Tuesday, the specialty retailer said, subject to April's sales results, first quarter losses will improve to 4 to 8 cents a share, compared to a Thomson Financial/First Call consensus loss estimate of 17 cents a share for the quarter.

Last year, the company lost 23 cents a share, or $2.8 million, on revenue of $69.8 million.
