SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 2002-- Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR - news), a leading provider of profitable infrastructures for the New Public Network, today announced that Data Access, an SPA-PCCW joint venture and India's largest private-sector international data carrier, has deployed Juniper Networks M-series Internet routers in its global Internet Protocol (IP) network.
The new network gives Data Access the ability to provide India's first international long distance Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, along with advanced IP data services such as multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) and virtual private networks (VPNs). The global network stretches initially from Mumbai, India to New York, London and Hong Kong. Plans are already in place for further expansion through the United States and Asia regions, based on Juniper Networks core and edge routing platforms.
``Data Access will be one of the first companies to offer International Long Distance (ILD) services in India since the sector was opened up to competition on April 1. We are happy to have selected Juniper Networks IP routing solutions to ensure the performance of our network and to provide quality services for our consumers to meet this opportunity,'' says Siddhartha Ray, managing director of Data Access. ``Juniper Networks provides the stability and scalability to extend our IP services globally and to introduce new services for voice and data implementation. With Juniper Networks our network infrastructure also supports secure MPLS and Layer 2 VPNs for our business customers.''
Data Access is one of India's leading private international data carriers. With a license from the Department of Telecommunications to offer ILD services in India, it has become a complete carrier-solutions provider, offering both data and voice services. The company has already entered into agreements with more than 12 tier-one carriers and has a memorandum of understanding in place with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. for termination of traffic in India and India-originated traffic to global destinations.
Data Access' initial IP global network includes Juniper Networks M5 Internet router platform. It runs STM-1 traffic from Mumbai to New York, enabling international long distance VoIP service. With Juniper Networks IP-routing solutions, Data Access' residential and business customers receive high-quality IP-based voice services with 70 percent savings over India's traditional voice services.
The Juniper Networks M-series routers offer ASIC-based rate limiting, filtering and sampling features. The unique value of JUNOS Internet software combined with the Internet Processor II ASIC allows Data Access to easily introduce new value-added services including MPLS VPNs and Layer 2 VPNs. The global implementation of this new network will be completed later this month.
