Wind River Announces Strategic Relationship With BeComm At NAB; Integration of Technologies Reduces Cost of Devices; Leads to Faster Time-To-Market

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 2002--Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected devices, today announced an agreement with BeComm Corporation(TM) to help accelerate the development of consumer electronic devices and information appliances delivering multimedia content for the home and office. Wind River and BeComm will team up at the National Association Broadcasters Convention (NAB, April 8th-11th) to illustrate how an integrated platform, software, and services solution can give users the ability to experience the content of their choice, on the device of their choice, in the format of their choice.

A demonstration of Wind River's information appliance platform running BeComm's Strings(TM) technology will show how thin clients, such as wireless tablets, can seamlessly access multimedia content throughout a network by harnessing the processing power and capabilities of other connected devices. The resulting media clients can be used to show audio and video programs without requiring the costly functional overhead.

"Our collaboration provides cost effective components, rigorous development approach, and development expertise that will reduce risk and improve time to profitability for our customers," said Steve Christian, director of marketing for Wind River Services. "Becoming proficient in BeComm's technology will enable us to help manufacturers develop products for the emerging media client market space."

BeComm's Strings technology uses the concept of a distributed media engine to enable users to connect to digital media of any form, in any environment, with the device or appliance of their choice. Strings also manages the dataflow within your application, so your application will be scalable, efficient and lightweight.

"We are very pleased to be working with Wind River. Its foundation of information appliance software and hardware, in combination with our Strings technology make a great platform for developing applications for network-enabled media appliances," said Edward Balassanian, president and CEO of BeComm Corporation. "Our relationship allows developers to focus on product differentiation and not re-invent the wheel, saving them time and money."
