CS First Boston said in an research note that "we believe these are 'clean' results, as there are no signs of product stuffing by Compaq in any of the major distribution channels."

On Jan. 25, Compaq boosted its earnings target for 2002 to 32 cents a share from a projected 25 cents citing increased demand for high-end products and services as well as cost cuts.

SG Cowen analyst Richard Chu said Compaq is benefiting from stabilization in the PC market, as well as more stable PC prices and low channel inventories. He was "mildly pleasantly surprised" by the upside announcement
