That's because Enron backed the debt with securities...as the securities became worthless, creditors wanted their cash.
Of course, the securities became worthless because of the Ponzi scheme they were running with their offshore subdivisions that were running losses that were covered by the sale of Enron stock, which further depressed the stock price, which required the sale of more Enron stock, which further depressed the price, etc.....

Great job, if you can get it.
I hope all those scumbags go to jail.
