Sonus cutting salaries 10 pct, sees flat outlook

BOSTON, April 9 (Reuters) - Network equipment maker Sonus Networks Inc. (NasdaqNM:SONS - news) on Tuesday said it was cutting salaries 10 percent companywide as it expects flat revenue growth in the current second quarter.

Stephen Nill, chief financial officer for Sonus, told analysts during a conference call the salary reduction plan was being implemented this month.

Nill said second-quarter revenue would be about flat, compared with the $21.2 million the company generated in the first quarter. He said the company's net loss, excluding special items, also would be about the same as the first quarter.

After the market closed, Sonus said it lost $16.2 million, or 9 cents a share.

Nill said Sonus' operating expenses would continue to decrease, or would be about 2 percentage points lower than the first quarter.
