Actually, I don't recall Sharon asking the US to participate... he would like to just carry on his war on terrorism, and the world won't let him.

The Golan Heights area is actually pretty safe... Israel has a defensive advantage there... there are Druze (they are Arabs, they just don't want to be identified with them)who live there, but the Druze want to be part of Israel and are quite peaceful. They actually serve quite proudly in the Israeli army.
