Hi all; Inquirer says Intel to still make i850 chipset next year:

Prescott, Springdale to have RMBS support
Intel will migrate current chipsets

Mike Magee, The Inquirer, April 4, 2002
IT'S OVER A YEAR away but the INQ can confirm today that Intel's next generation desktop CPU, called Prescott, will have support for Rambus as well as for double data rate (DDR) memory.
...
The two channel 850 Rambus chipset will be "migrated" to Springdale during the first half of next year, ready for the introduction of the Prescott products.

The 850E chipset, currently called only the 850E Springdale follows on from the current chipset, while Intel will rationalise its 845 series, and produce Springdale 845E and 845G products.

So here it is, the 850 has been out for 15 months and still no new RDRAM chipsets at Intel. Meanwhile DDR chipsets are bursting out all over Intel's product line from servers to notebooks. Don't feel too good about the 850E, the only difference between it and the 850 is in the new South Bridge, which was developed for both the 845E (DDR) and the 850E. Here's the part numbers showing the common use of the 82801DB between the 845E and 850E:

North South
Bridge Bridge
------ -------
Intel 850: 82850 82801BA
Intel 850E: 82850 82801DB
Intel 845: 82845 82801BA
Intel 845E: ??? 82801DB
