Dear rude: One can also claim with e-mail, "Hey, I didn't write that. It's a forgery!" Voicemail? I shake my head.
"remember when Capellas said CPQ was an email culture and HP a voicemail culture? Funny how that works out."
Yes, and should this merger go through, I wonder which culture will win out. To be an e-mail culture, people have to know how to type--and be fast at it. Not all voicemail people have the skills to make the switch, making them far less productive [since those e-mails take up so much of their time writing].
BTW, when I started using e-mail in the late 70s, early 80s, I (and everyone else) had to read and sign an acceptable use policy document. In it was a section devoted to the content of e-mail. One thing in this section, to paraphrase, was, "Before you send your message, make sure you would not be uncomfortable having it printed on the frount page of The New York Times."
