From Motley Fool...

Uninterruptible power supply manufacturer EXIDE ELECTRONICS GROUP (Nasdaq:XUPS)
surged $7 3/4 to $20 5/8 on receiving a buyout offer from Washington, D.C.-based holding
company DANAHER CORP. (NYSE:DHR) for $20 per share. The deal values Exide at 25 times
1997 earnings estimates and 14.8 times 1998 estimates, but Danaher may raise the bid pending a
closer look at Exide's books. The offer also falls $2 per share below an earlier confidential offer
Danaher made to Exide's board. At those multiples, competitor AMERICAN POWER
CONVERSION (Nasdaq:APCC) would be valued at between $22.05 and $30.75 per share.
