I think that one thing that has changed is that the arabs think they have a chance to dislodge Israel and that they haven't had any hope of that for some time. It can't help that they now have sympathetic people in Europe and the US which they didn't have before. The demonstrations we have witnessed were previously unthinkable. Perhaps some americans are too afraid of the arabs and want to appease them.
