That only works when the the large caps form the leadership. When the small caps lead as in 96, 97, last fall, and now, the Russell is the last to fall. It's an open issue whether after this current decline whether the Russell will make a secondary top in the May/June period for another last leg down. The Russell leadership is often indicative of an inflationary economy.
