Jim, i think you missed my point on the Apple merger.

my theory is ...

sunw will be able to use apple's technology in desktop OS (namely
the mac operator) and market/brand in low-end computer to benefit
from the communication explosion.

when high-speed networks are developed, desktop micro-processing
power will be overshadowed by client/server network efficiency. while
sun is a dominate power in internet/network computing. it can utilize
the mac OS to incorporate strength of Unix (reliability and database)
into the desktop OS.

up to this point, weakness of Unix is user-friendliness. it lacks graphics
and it also lacks easily driven commands.

while, Mac OS is MUCH MORE trouble free than MS Windows.
combination of sunw's expertise in UNIX and MacOS will ensure the
industry's highest RELIABILITY.

combining the two best technology, APPLE and SUNW will be able
to out-sell intel and MSFT.

software has ALWAYS been the key driving hardware sales. windows
excell in the sense it is user-friendly. but, what happens when Sunw
can engineer into the user-friendly oriented desktop OS?

don't give up on sunw yet.
