Mac, IBM has been doing all kinds of financial engineering. They have not grown the topline much at all in several years. Fleck on IBM today.. What Is the Gestation Period of a Turkey?: Regular readers know I've been expecting something like this concerning IBM. As I have stated on several occasions, the company's treatment of its asset sales is in clear contravention of an SEC staff bulletin passed expressly as a consequence of that behavior. Given the coverage that IBM's deft touch has received in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and other places, I don't see how the SEC could avoid looking into this issue and admonishing the company. The outcome is not knowable at this point, but in any case, that's why I opined about a week ago that I believed the rumors of an earnings restatement to be true.
