Since you mention Arafat... Gloating from the FA thread: #reply-17320975 No, Arafat wasn't interested in peace. The reason you thought he might be interested in peace was because you didn't realize what the goals of the Intifada were. This is probably why you still haven't realized that the Intifada is making progress towards those goals. (I.e. economic damage of Israel, continuation of hostilities so as to breed more militants, keeping Arab passions high, and positively influencing US public opinion, all of which are being accomplished.) Unfortunately, he's right on this score. Lovely what a resource inexhaustible cannon fodder is.
