From Briefing.com: 8:21AM Veeco Instruments VECO added to Merrill's list of favorite tech names (33.55) Merrill Lynch removes FDC from their Techfolio list of 10 favorite tech names, and adds VECO; checks indicate that VECO's semi, nanotechnology, wireless, and data storage-related equipment orders are improving, optical backlog seems to have been purged, and the stock is trading at a discount relative to peers. Price target is $45.

8:04AM MIPS Techs MIPS upgraded by Robbie following earnings (6.73) Robertson Stephens upgrades to BUY from Mkt Perform after company reported significantly better license revenues than firm had previewed. Believes current qtr reflected the turning pt for MIPS as license rev increased sequentially for the first time in a yr. Firm's 12-month price target is $9.

7:04AM Business Week Stock: ASM Intl : Business Week reports that savvy players have begun buying technology stocks such as ASM Intl (ASMI 24.31) in anticipation of market recovery. Despite the chip equipment maker's run from Sept level of $9.35, one fund manager thinks stock is still undervalued.
