Morning Greg:
How appropriate to have Harrisons name in your first post!
Some comments on the market fears today.
I notice that many male newscasters have taken to screaming and emphasizing every other word as though
their report is "new" no matter if its been reported 24 times before. Adding fuel to the fires.
As far as threats to the economy by Afgans and oil producers, our own people can do much better at at
destroying things (we dont need any help). Ltcm 110 bil, Kenneth Lay 100 bil, Charles Keating, Bob Citron.
The S+L disaster, the Chrysler bankruptsy, Gibralter Savings( largest S+L in the country).
$50/barrel oil in the 1970's and we survived
For killing people, we do very well with no help, over 41k traffic deaths in 1996,1997 or maybe 410,000 in ten years - not to mention far greater numbers injured.
And then there is the Texas Motor Speedway.
For wars, we average about one war every 5 years and the last three have been with mighty few casualties.
And the economy chugs right along.
Summary:
I am solidly behind Pres Bush and what he is trying to do, but the fears created are having too much influence on the markets.
