Hi Rudedog: We had this discussion a few years back. I do not recall what the specific failure rates were but they were quite small. My point was specific to hardware that was to be used for telecommunication specific functions including switching circuits, VoIP, and other mission critical enterprise operations.

I believe the original Tandem redundant design was built with these functions in mind. I suspect that current technology has gotten much better. What's your take with this and the new emerging technologies?

IMO, any VoIP configuration must have reliable and redundant systems so up time (however measured) must approach 100%. From what I can tell, the biggest advantage for SUNW over MS in deploying a VoIP platform is the utilization of the Solaris OS or any UNIX in general.

Can you think of any other advantages Sunw might have over MS in this space?
