Good point.

I'm against any long-term transfer payments to individuals. I tolerate short-term programs like unemployment. If it's necessary to supplement the income of workfare recipients, I would prefer providing services to cash.

I think the idea of welfare reform was to eliminate most long term transfer payments, but at most it has made most of those medium term not really short. If we are going to have them and they are going to give cash, would you rather the government just write a check almost automatically or are requirements like participating in workfare programs better in your opinion?
